SAFETY TO THE MAX In high-traffic environments like hospitals, it is vital that the flooring is highly safe, durable
and easy to maintain. The WearMax system from Traffik UK Ltd has been put to the test in such environments with successful results.
Traffik UK Limited has been established for over 26 years and works in partnership with the Facilities Management (FM) sector, flooring manufacturers and distributors; providing a range of flooring solutions for all types of hard and soft floor surfaces. Traffik’s primary aim is to ensure that its clients receive the very best and latest industry innovations and the introduction of WearMax is yet another example of the company leading the way in sustainable flooring solutions.
Wearmax is the first high-tech floor seal to incorporate ceramic components and has been revolutionising flooring throughout Europe and the USA, where it was first developed 15 years ago – the brand is now available in the UK and Ireland through Traffik UK Ltd.
Howard O’Brien, Managing Director of Traffik UK, said: “The benefits of the WearMax ceramic floor seal system are broad and the opportunities endless. Whether installing a new floor and looking to protect it for longevity and easy maintenance, looking to extend the life of an existing floor or looking to enhance a tired floor coming to the end of its lifecycle; WearMax is the answer.”
TRIED AND TESTED A number of trials are already underway in the UK, most recently at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, where WearMax has been tested on vinyl flooring in one of the hospital’s sanitation bays.
Carlos Alves, Service Manager for Housekeeping Services at the Trust, said: “Flooring throughout the hospital is constantly under pressure from heavy footfall and through the use of trolleys and other equipment this means that both vinyl and wooden flooring becomes scuffed and marked very easily.
"The trials carried out on the vinyl flooring have been very successful, with Traffik, in partnership with the West Suffolk Hospital Housekeeping Team,

in Austria for instance, tests and subsequent installations have proved how effective Wearmax is as a highly cost-effective solution for long term floor care in hospitals and healthcare with the 10 year warranty, its durability and lack of maintenance being the prime factors.
In 2012, JKU undertook extensive testing of Wearmax ceramic floor seal/ coating in different areas of the hospital to assess the impact of installation on operations, the longevity of the product and how easy it was to clean.
The installation process was in all cases a strong collaboration between the hospital and Wearmax. The hospital recognised that by completing an installation of Wearmax, interruption caused by stripping and sealing of floors, maintenance procedures and general cleaning costs and time could be reduced significantly. In addition, there was no longer the need to use harsh chemicals for regular stripping or maintenance.
Heavily-stressed and worn areas could be rehabilitated quickly and effectively and, with the 24 hour service offered for installation prior to use, there was little downtime lost in any operational area. This, combined with the fact that for healthcare installations there is a 10-year wear-through warranty, means that the hospital do not have these areas interrupted on a frequent basis for maintenance – but rather only once every 10 years – thus dramatically saving costs and operationally, making the hospital’s use of their flooring far more efficient.
being able to lay the Wearmax surface quickly without any major disruption to the flooring’s use.”
The trials at West Suffolk reflect Wearmax’s impact on the Healthcare Sector across Europe where, at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU)
During their investigations, JKU established that the WearMax sealed surfaces are very resistant to disinfectants and show no sign of staining at all. In addition, there are no signs of heavy traffic use from hospital trolleys or heavy footfall demonstrating that the durability of the sealed areas is very high.
