Visual vs Viable WHERE TO DRAW THE LINE

Anyone that knows me will know that I am what one would call ‘a creative’. I love all things visual, and aesthetics have a huge impact on how I feel about something – from the car that I buy, through to the food that I eat and the adverts that I create in my role as Events and Marketing Manager at Europa… Like our little Chick who appears on the back of this magazine.

Generally speaking, if I like what I see I roll with it, regardless of whether it comes from a well- known fancy pants brand, or a little local independent that’s just starting out.

But one of the lessons I have learnt over the years is not to judge a book by its cover, to coin a popular phrase. All well and good swanning about like Ferris Bueller on his well-documented day off in Ferrari convertible looking all cool, but if the brakes don’t work, you’ll soon find yourself in hot water.

Similarly, there’s absolutely no point choosing to work with a supplier just because of a beautiful brochure or a wicked website if the customer service is rubbish and the salesperson’s attitude stinks, is there?

I mean, that would be utterly crackers.

I find the importance of marrying the look with the feel of something is particularly relevant in the events industry. Again, no one wants catering that looks the part but doesn’t taste great, just as no one wants food that tickles the taste buds but looks like a dog’s dinner… literally.

It’s an ethos I certainly adopt for the day-to-day in the event furniture hire business, and so it probably won’t be a surprise to hear that I take it really rather seriously when a client asks for some help to create an event furniture hire package that will help to wow their guests.

You see, many people have a vision in mind when it comes to staging their ‘do’, but it’s not always as straight forward as simply ordering something on which guests can sit, stand or schmooze. Go basic and risk looking boring, go big and risk looking cramped, go flash and risk looking out of place… or worse, cheesy.

Instead, a combination of practical yet plush pieces could help to maximise the space of your venue; it could complement and enhance the theme; and it could help with the flow of ‘delegate traffic’. All whilst providing somewhere to sit, eat, network, perform, present and party.

Main conference spaces lined with catwalk benches that ensure everyone has a place to perch whilst a presentation takes place, or a speaker… umm… speaks; but complemented too by breakout areas littered with stunning swan chairs in red, blue, black and white that can help inject personality to proceedings.

Similarly, the colourful Panton chairs provide guests with a fabulously cool yet curvy place to take a rest.
