Drinks Feature Finally a reason to drink non-alcoholic beer by Racheal Vaughan Jones — Head of Brand, Lucky Saint
We travelled 7,642 miles, tested 56,628 litres of beer and spent 741 days in research and development to get to a beer we were proud of. And wow, we are proud!
Before Lucky Saint, we weren’t happy with the selection of alcohol-free beers available, and it wasn’t until we discovered how important the filtration process, or lack thereof, was to the flavour of beer that we had our lightbulb moment. You see, filtering beer strips out flavour and body and can leave you wanting more. We searched high and low, and eventually found a brewer in Bavaria who was using vacuum distillation methods, a process unavailable in the UK, and who bought into our vision of creating an unfiltered alcohol-free beer. The result was a full-bodied lager with maximum flavour, even without the alcohol.
A brief word about vacuum distillation – typically alcohol evaporates at almost 80°C but after much trial and tasting beers that had slightly burnt and ‘off’ flavours, we wanted to find a better way. Using a vacuum method means that you can halve the evaporation point, avoiding those undesirable flavours. Clever.
Creating a beer with the best possible flavour and ultimate liquid experience was always the most important part of our journey and in a bottle of Lucky Saint you will find satisfying flavours of biscuity malts and a smooth, citrus hop finish.
Our 0.5% Unfiltered Lager pairs exceptionally well with food. From rich, buttery fish dishes to spicy Southeast Asian fare, the full-bodied, toasted malt and citrus notes of Lucky Saint have you covered. That’s probably why our lager is favoured by chefs up
and down the country, and why you’ll find us sat comfortably on the menus everywhere from our favourite burger joint, Honest, all the way to Michelin starred delights like La Trompette.
Today, Lucky Saint is proudly served from behind the bar in over 800 venues. But our ambitions are much bigger. We imagine a world where nobody apologises for not drinking, where experiences aren’t defined by alcohol and where compromising on flavour simply does not compute.
We’re excited!
