to feel all day.” Apt for a venue that not only deals in high-calibre entertainment, but also in its selection of scrumptious beverages. Fireball is one that particularly wets my whistle on those long New Cross all day music sessions, and immediately catches the eye as I approach the timber, striking bar – manned by the friendliest bar staff you could wish to find.

The stage, boasting an impressive display of high quality Orange Amplifiers, seems to exude musical vibration and almost sing, even during a quiet lunchtime the calm before the storm can be felt rumbling through the floorboards. This is a place that has a natural and warming musical energy. It is more than just a pub; it is a proper music venue that has played host to an insurmountable array of musical entities over the years – it’s only natural the very foundations of this place are pulsating with a melodious aura.

It’s not until you explore and delve deeper into this idiosyncratic SE London musical setting, that you discover its hidden nooks and crannies. Venturing down the stairs by the side of the main stage reveals a cosy, more intimate second bar which boasts an array of authentic copper distillery equipment, high-backed social booths and a dimly lit, yet not dank situation - adding to the New Cross Inn’s already intensely quirky appeal. This bar provides a cosy retreat and from the hurly burly of the upstairs main stage.

The New Cross Inn provides euphonious respite from its otherwise hectic surroundings, a real diamond in the rough. Worth a visit, if not for its awesome selection of craft beers and wines, quirky recesses or for its excellence in providing the most entertaining and memorable gigs a venue arguably does this side of the Thames – but pay the New Cross inn a visit and feel the music even when there’s no-one on stage.
