Meetings normally held on the third Monday of each month at the Marriott Tudor Park Hotel. Publicwelcome.
CHAIRMAN:Daniel Skinner CLERK: Sherrie Babington 01634 867173
Plans received PLANS have been submitted for a garage at theAce High development on theMODsite at Friningham. Applications approved by the
parish council include a first-floor extension to 21 Shillingheld Close and a single storey attached annexe at Howe Court in Crismill Lane.
Annual meeting THE council’s annual meeting will be at theTudorPark Hotel at 7.30pm on May 15, when the Thurnham Heritage Award will be presented. All arewelcome.
COUNCILLORS agreed to insist that Maidstone Council stand by its decision to oppose plans for Woodcut Farm at appeal. Cllr Peter Waite told the parish council itwas felt that planning of- ficers were using the Local Plan to persuade borough council mem- bers to abandon continued opposi- tion to warehousing off junction 8 of the M20. He said: “If this goes ahead, it will be the thin end of a very thin
wedge, opening the whole area to development. This will be another KIG by a thousand cuts, and needs to be defended. “Officers are deliberately biasing
the inspector’s report, which said Woodcut Farm should be held back, if needed, for office develop- ment.” Cllr Richard Smith supported
him, adding: “I do not contemplate development of this site in any way, but allowing it bit by bit
would be the worst scenario, as there will be no funds for infra- structure and no value in terms of jobs, other than for a few ware- house staff. At least the KIMS de- velopment has created work for a wide variety of people including cleaners, auxiliary staff and doc- tors.”
Members agreed to ask ward councillor Nick De Wiggondene convey their concerns to planning members ahead of their decision.
Ware Street parking issue Sign confusion
COUNCILLORS concluded that cars parking at a sensitive crossing point onWare Street had led to “the worst case scenario” by encouraging motorists to park on the pavement. Vice-chairman Richard Smith
agreed to attend the next meeting of Bearsted Parish Council to highlight the risk to pedestrians. The discussion followed a request
by Thurnham Parish Council for a site meeting with Kent Police to equate the value and cost of double yellow lines. Instead an exhaustive application form had been received. Chairman Daniel Skinner said: “I
know Bearsted wishes to find a so- lution and it is important we work together on this and raise it again at their next meeting.”
Something to sing about at church
COUNCILLORSwelcomed the Detling Singers plan to use Thurnham Church for a concert at 7.30pm on Saturday,May 20. Tickets are £10, which includes refreshments, fromthe newsagents on Bearsted Green or call 734240. To book the church, call Richard Smith on 01622 738562.
CLARIFICATION is be sought over new signs that have caused confu- sion for residents in Thurnham. The road signs near the Black
Horse, which have also been put in Detling, ban the use of the Pilgrims’ Way by cars and motorcycles, except for access, from 7am-9.30am. The clerk said KCC saw the restrictions were seen by the county council as the bestway to persuade people not to divert off the A249 along the country lane during rush hour. However, a member of the public
said it had confused residents and no consultationwas carried out. The clerk confirmed the new regulations were advertised, but agreed to seek further clarification.
