Parents, Leaders Can Support Friends of Scouting

The heart of Blue and Gold Banquet season has officially ended. Thus wraps the busiest time of year for Family Friends of Scouting presentations. Across the Simon Kenton Council, our teams of volunteer presenters

have an aggressive goal of raising $450,000 for local Scouting programs.

CONGRATULATIONS SILVER BEAVER HONOREES The Silver Beaver Award is the highest recognition a council can bestow on a volunteer. Congratulations to all our 2016 Silver Beaver Recipients. VENTURING SUCCESSES

Congratulations to our Venturing Committee for achieving Silver Level of the Council Standards of Venturing Excellence (CSVE) Award. They were two

of ten councils in the Central Region that earned Silver level.

SCOUT DAY WITH THE BISHOP

Catholic Boy and Girl Scouts who earned religious awards in 2016 gathered on Sunday, January 29 at the Church of the Resurrection in

New Albany to be honored by Bishop Frederick Campbell at a prayer service. Three young men and women were presented the Red Sash of Merit who earlier earned other Catholic Scouting emblems and have demonstrated leadership, accepted responsibility, and are active in their troop, community, and parish. Honored were Danny Edgington of Boy Scout Troop 295, Laura Williams of Venture Crew 1618, and Katherine Croswell of Venture Crew 1618. Also honored were nine adults who received the Bronze Pelican emblem, which the diocesan Scouting committee presents to individuals who have performed exceptional service to the Scouting program through their contributions to the spiritual development of Catholic youth.

To give some perspective, here’s a snapshot from the busiest week in the busiest month of Family FOS Presentations: • $48,021 total raised for local Scouting -That’s 320 “support one scout” gifts!

• 48 total presentations were conducted across the SKC.

So where do Friends of Scouting dollars go? They go to support of operations of the Simon Kenton Council. That includes the upkeep and maintenance of our four camp properties, the convenience of three service centers, adult volunteer training opportunities and insurance coverage for our Scouts and Scouters.

If you haven’t had a chance to make your contribution to this year’s Friends of Scouting campaign. It’s not too late! Visit skcScouts.org/donate and make your tax-deductible gift.
