At Bass Harbor Boat in Bernard they have built two of these Cliff Rich designed punts. At Rollins Boat Shop in York, work

is progressing well on the 40-foot trimaran. She was designed by John Marples and is constructed of Maine cedar panels with lots of epoxy. The hulls are altogether and they are now working on her superstructure and interior. She is scheduled to be fi nished and overboard the end of the summer. As for storage customers they have a 40 foot ketch, built by Lyle Harrington, which

will have her hardware stripped off her spars, repairs made as needed and then sanded and painted.

Lowell Brothers in Yarmouth is get-

ting further along on their 46 footer, which is being fi nished out as a lobster boat for a customer from Penobscot Bay. The hull was built upside down and after the last layer of fi berglass was completed they faired it.

When they were done fairing, they rolled the hull over in March and had a lot of cleanup to do on the interior. Once they trimmed the sheer, they begin marking out where things will go. Now they will put in her stringers, fuel tanks and bulkheads. She will be pow- ered with a Boudain 815-hp diesel engine. She is scheduled to be done late this summer. Also on order is a Lowell 38, which

will be fi nished out as a lobster boat for a fi sherman from Harpswell. They will be starting this project this Spring.

Greene Marine in Yarmouth has a

1952 36 foot wooden Rich built boat in the ship. They have put in a new transom and stem and now they are replacing frames for- ward of the bulkhead. The frames after the bulkhead were replaced previously. They will also be replacing planks as needed. Outside is a catamaran that is being

converted into an electric power cat. She is powered with two Volvo gen sets and en- gines, which were supplied by Ocean Volt. It has been calculated that she will be able to cruise at 6 knots for six hours. The fabri- cation work on this project is being done by Cumberland Iron Works. Other work at the yard includes putting

new rails on a Dyer dinghy; repairing a dag- ger board for a 50 foot catamaran, and their workboat is getting ready to be launched for the season.

Casey Yacht Enterprises in Freeport is

getting closer to completing the restoration of a Mussel Ridge 28. They have completely gone over this boat and she will be spec- tacular when fi nished. They have replaced her fuel tanks and platform, made repairs to her decks and washboards, as well has her cabin top. The repairs made to her decks and washboards were due to wet core. The windshield, which is teak, was taken off and refi nished with the addition of new glass. She is powered with a 300-hp Yanmar turbo diesel and should be quite fast and extremely quiet due to the amount of Soundown put in. Presently they are painting the interior, fi nishing up the wiring, and completing the rounded teak cockpit which will sport a curved bench seat in the stern. They are also working on the wainscot panels that will be on either side on the inside of the house. Once all this is done, it’s just paint the bottom and topsides put on the swim platform and launch her early this summer. Out in the yard there are several boats

which need some minor work and annual maintenance before they go overboard for the season.

At Farrin’s Boat Shop in Walpole they

have two boats underway in the main shop. Their big project is on a Lowell 43,

which is being fi nished off as a very high end lobster yacht for a customer from southern Maine. They are now working on fi nishing her interior wood work, plumbing and electrical work in the engine room, and the fl ybridge. The fl ybridge is about 85 percent complete and now just needs the wooden trim added. This boat will be going over- board early this Summer. In the other shop, is a Calvin Beal 42,

which is being fi nished out as a sportfi sher- man for a customer from New York City. She is powered with a 1000-hp Caterpillar diesel and for accommodations has a Queen berth in the forward owner’s state room, heading after there is an upper and lower berth to port, head and shower to starboard, with her galley up in the shelter. She will be fi tted with a 6KW generator, bow thruster, tuna tank, live well, a green stick, tuna door, outside steering station in the cockpit, and at least 12 rod holders. They will also be altering her house adding more rake to her windshield and extending the house back four feet. Just fi nished and launched was a Young

Brothers 40 sportfi sherman, built 20 years ago, which was in to be completely refur- bished. They removed her windows and installed new ones, and repowered her with a 12.9 850-hp Caterpillar diesel. During sea trials she topped out at 25 knots, but will cruise between 1900 and 2000 rpms at a comfortable 20 knots.
