broken down into three sections. First came the chance to get used to the bikes by turning a few laps and gradually learning to get into the right posture.
The machines are speedway chassis powered by a simple and durable 125cc Honda engine. Some might be upset at the lack of a 500cc methanol- burning beastie, but the relatively docile Honda gives new riders a chance of learning something rather than merely clinging on for dear life.
Having a former World number two telling me what it takes to ride a speedway bike was chance-in-a-lifetime stuff and he was patient, helpful and keen for us to get the hang of sliding. This was my fourth attempt at riding a speedway bike and the closest I’ve ever come to experiencing what speedway is really about
The inal section of a highly enjoyable day was the chance to lap the full track again and put into practice what we’d just learnt.
Ride and Skid It is a brilliant
day for speedway followers who want to have a go. And the best part is that it’s only £80 for the full day, including use of the bike and all riding kit. It’s a day to remember and one of the best value motorcycling experiences around. I want to go back for another go.
