Lytchett Minster & Upton Gardening Club

Lytchett Minster and Upton Gardening Club is 75 years old this year. If you have any memories or photos about the club, we would be very pleased to hear from you. Our committee will organise a community event or commemoration at some time during the year to celebrate our anniversary.

We have tried to organise a varied programme for 2017, interesting to everyone in the community, not just the gardeners! All meetings are at Upton Community Centre on the fourth Thursday of the month, starting at 7.30pm. Why not join us?

In February, Brian Madders spoke about ‘Some Unusual Perennials.’ He was able to show us, with his colourful slides, which types to grow for each month of the year. He is certainly well informed about fl owering plants and was happy to answer members’ questions. He also brought plants to sell, so hopefully you will be able to see the results in our gardens later in the year.

Tessa Burrows

Next Event: A Walk On The Wild Side. A talk by Eric Watson on Thursday 27th April at 7.30pm.

The Upton and Lytchett Allotment Association (ULMAA)

Unlike many allotment sites, we are very lucky to have a few vacancies at the Slough Lane site. If you are a resident in Upton or Lytchett Minster and would like an allotment, we have a few ½ or full plots available. Our fees are very reasonable and we have regular events to improve site facilities.

Please contact Carolyn 01202 631732, Jeff 07905 406708, Lorna 01202 622012 or Lynn 01202 622046 for more info and an informal visit. Or email ULMAA99@gmail.com.

Eric is an amateur photographer and has been chairman of the Dorset Section of the Hardy Plant Society for nearly 20 years. The talk will be illustrated from Eric’s personal, colourful collection of 17,000 slides, spanning 34 years. The slides depict wildlife scenes from the Dorset countryside, and cover birds, reptiles, spiders and winged insects that are rarely seen. Come and learn about the ‘wild areas’ of your own county! Our visitor’s entry is £3 and includes tea and biscuits.
