To have and to hold...

Are you searching for the perfect wedding ring – the universal symbol of everlasting love? Some engagement rings will dictate the shape and style of your wedding ring, for example, a marquise shaped ring will require a band that fits around that shape or underneath, depending on the elevation of the setting.

The metal used to create your engagement ring once dictated the metal used for your band, but more recently, working a rose gold wedding band with a platinum engagement ring has proved eclectic and endearing. This ‘swapping it up’ also enhances the wedding ring and makes it stand out on the finger as a proud statement of your married status! Really there are no hard and fast traditions in terms of wedding bands, instead there’s a whole host of trends that you may want to tap into.

From vintage-inspired details to edgy coloured stones, there are many trends to choose from, some of which are sure to become classics. Here are some of the latest trends:

Pave Diamonds : This elegant setting is made up of tiny, faceted, fully cut stones that are set as closely together as possible so that you can’t see the metal around them. This setting offers subtle bling without being outlandish. It can set off an engagement ring without detracting from it.

Vintage Look : Subtle and delicate, bands are engraved with filigree scrolls and delicate milgrain work (beaded edges). Some are centre set with a stone, round or Asscher cut, and tiny diamonds can be worked between the filigree. These bands work wonderfully with antique engagement rings. You can pick these up in antique shops and second hand jewellers, or for those that want to own a ring that no-one else has worn, there are an abundance of jewellers offering these designs.

Coloured Stones : Yes, it’s a modern, fun look and with so much colour being added to our wardrobe, why not have a yellow diamond or pink sapphire added into the mix of your wedding band? A friend of our editor’s opted for a sapphire pave wedding band to match her sapphire and diamond engagement ring!

Eternity Bands : Eternity rings (diamonds all the way round) are now a popular alternative to the traditional wedding band; with a variety of diamond shapes and coloured metals it’s easy to find a style to suit your personality and engagement ring.

Stacked Rings : The more the merrier! It certainly makes an impressive statement by stacking several wedding and eternity bands together to create a mixture of textures and colours. You can add to the collection on anniversaries too...
