FIRST AID LEARN CPR E

What would you do if someone you loved went into cardiac arrest and stopped breathing?

very year in the UK there are 60,000 incidents of Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) and

over half of them are witnessed by a bystander. People are often too afraid to intervene, instead just waiting until the ambulance arrives. But by that time it could be too late.

DO YOU KNOW CPR? 999

It’s something you don’t want to think about, but in some cases this is a reality, and when faced with this situation many people would panic.

Having the confidence and ability to start CPR could be the difference between someone living or dying. With this in mind we were excited to launch Great Western Heart Starters – a campaign to teach Secondary School pupils basic life support skills.

1. Check it is safe

2. Call for help

3. Check their airway is clear

4. Check to see if they are breathing

5. Check for circulation

6. Begin CPR

7. Find a defibrillator and follow the instructions given by the machine

Place the heel of your hand on the breastbone at the centre of the person’s chest. Place your other hand on top of your first hand and interlock your fingers.

Position yourself with your shoulders above your hands. Using your body weight press straight down on their chest.

Keeping your hands on their chest, release the compression and allow chest to return to its original position. REPEAT
