Moldova is a small nation situated between Romania and the Ukraine. Once part of the former Soviet Union, it is widely regarded as one of the poorest countries in Europe.


While the few cities in Moldova have relatively modern buildings, at the heart of Moldova is quiet countryside dotted with small cottages and family farms. Outside the cities, it’s common to see horses pulling open wagons filled with farming supplies on two-lane roads. Throughout Moldova, there is a pervading sense of oppression and sadness, a remnant from the dark days of the Cold War. The hard economic conditions drive
