Sam makes clean start at Bearsted laundree

WHO would have thought a mum-of-fourwould fancy the idea of opening a laundrette – but that’s exactly what Sam Michaelas has done. After years as the backroom girl, bringing up the kids and doing the paperwork for husband Donda’s fish and chip shop, Marino’s, on the Ashford Road, Sam is going into business for herself. She is taking on the Roseacre Laundrette, behind her husband’s successful business in Bearsted. Sam said: “It’s fantastic to try something new and I’m well-re- hearsed when it comes towashing, drying and ironing with children of 12, 10, eight and two.” The 33-year-old is investing £10,000 into the business and has big plans to introduce daily service washes, a 48-hour dry cleaning service and ironing, in addition to the self-service offer. She said: “My little girl Sophia is desperate to help me out and is al- ready calling me Dot, as a big fan of EastEnders!” Sam has been busy painting and

usual for self-service customers, but by the middle of March she hopes to be offering the complete clothes cleaning service from 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, and jobs for another two people. The laundrette started life more than 20 years ago on the Ashford

News Homes fears

MAIDSTONE Council has rejected a request from Hollingbourne’s vil- lage hall committee to ask for a traf- fic survey with proposals for 12 houses behind theWindmill pub. Villagers fear the development

can only be reached by a public foot- path off Eyhorne Street, allowing an entrance of just four metres wide. The committee said: “For the au- thority to not request a transport statement to enable fair and consis- tent assessment of the proposed de- velopment is tantamount to biased pre-determination.”

Locks mystery

A MYSTERY vandal has been tam- pering with the door locks at Hollingbourne village hall. The door has had to be partially dismantled three times to get it open. Village Hall chairman John Holley asked hall users and vil- lagers to report any suspicious ac- tivity at the hall, behind the Windmill pub.
