he would be my Godfather, he asked why. So I told him about dad's friend (that he also knew) and that if something happened to dad, who would keep people from messing with me until I got big enough to take up for my- self. He smiled and said, “If anybody ever messes with you, just let me know, and they'll wish they never did." I asked Mister Chester if I could ask

one more question, he agreed. I asked, “You know when you held your open hand up and said ‘As long as I have this,’ then you made a fist, and said, ‘This,’ and then you pointed at your feet, and said, ‘And these, I ain't gotta take no mess off of nobody’?" Mister Chester and my dad were rolling their eyes, like I do when I'm thinking “Oh Boy.” "Well I know the fists are for fighting, and the feet are to get you away from something, but I can't figure out what the open hand stands for.” Mister Chester and my dad looked at each other, speechless, and finally dad said, "You know on TV when you see fathers have a talk

with their teenage sons about the birds and bees, when you get old enough we will have that talk and I will explain it to you then." I said, "By then I'll have it figured out all by myself.” Mister Chester laughed and said, "I

know you will." Then he got into his car and drove away. We would see Mister Chester pretty

regular until 1962 when the Bruce Treasury was looted by a wiz kid who fled to Argentina. I got to hear several colorful stories, and a view of United States history you won’t ever read about in a history book. I hope I have the chance to share those stories with you, and your friends. Until next time, may the celebration of

God’s Creation bring an abundance of bless- ings to you and your loved ones. You really ought to love everyone, but if you can't, prac- tice really hard on the people you do love you'll get the swing of it after a while. Your newest friend, Mister P.W. •
