get by with it…” and again I’m thinking, “Well, Leon got away with it and Dr. John got away with it, maybe, maybe I can get away with it,” so that’s been my take on it. That’s been one of the reasons I haven’t done one before now. I’m thinking, “Just because I ain’t the greatest singer in the world is no rea- son not to cut a CD.”

Well, I was pleasantly surprised by your vocals. I had no idea, like I said, that I think in the review, I know I’ve told people that I didn’t know Paul could sing. I didn’t have no idea.” Sounded great. Thinking, planning and researched to find some songs that I could pull off cause I can’t sing just anything. I had to find something that’s fairly easy to sing. You know, when you listen, there’s not a big stretch there, you know. I’ll never be Tom Jones, I’ll never be Gregg Allman or you know, it is what it is. But I had a wonderful time cutting it and the music to me - I still get excited about it when I play the record, you know. I started it over a year ago and I still enjoy hearing the thing played back. And most of the stuff I’ve done in the past I’m afraid to listen to it back be- cause I’m afraid I’ll hear mistakes an I’ll cringe. But for the most part, I’ve been pretty happy with the way this thing turned out.

Yeah, I’m glad to hear that because it’s great. You know you’ll see people who are just, “Well, it’d have been better if I just so and so, if this hadn’t happened or this hadn’t hap- pened.” I don’t have any excuses at all. I had the greatest musicians in the world to play with me on here and I played as good as I think I’ve ever played in my life, probably bet- ter, you know.

Sure thing. I don’t think I’ve ever played as good and I played as much as I wanted to play and I

mixed it up. I made the piano as loud as I wanted to make it so there it is, you know. Freedom! With nobody telling you what you’ve got to do. So there it is. Take it or leave it. A lot of people have left it. (Laughs) But a lot of people have taken to it.

Well yeah, I haven’t heard anything negative. All the people I’ve talked to liked it and I’ve played songs off of it on my radio shows and continue to. You know I tried to pick enough older songs that are actually retro. They’re so old that they’re new. So many people say, “Oh man, did you write that?” And I say, “No, that was a hit in 1949.” I said, “That was before my time, even.”

Like they say, everything old is new again. Thanks Paul. It’s been fun! Thank you Buffalo. •
