In the Market Square both Father Christmas and Thomas the Tank Engine were continuously in demand: Rotakids were selling their wares with smiles of success. Roger the Snowman and our Satellite members provided enough snow for a ski-run and pleased many kids-of-all-ages to believe in a White Christmas.
As I walked around the crowded streets, I enjoyed the entertainers with their fire and hula- hoops, the music of the Wantage Silver Band and the fun of the fair. As the sun faded and the illuminations were switched on to cheers, gradually the crowd dispersed, happy and excited that Christmas was just a few days away. I was disappointed to be too late for a warm mince pie and a cup of mulled wine: sold out. But, where was the big red fire engine with its swarming kids?
Rotarians all can be pleased and proud to have provided such a great service to Faringdon. The hard work was seen to have been so worthwhile.
As the lady said: “Fantastic” and added “we will be back next year” and then, “When will Thomas and Father Christmas come to our area?”
Faringdon Rotary has created such Great Expectations.
