YOUNG WRITER & YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER COMPETITIONS 2017

Over 20 young people attended the Rotary workshops for Young Writers and Young Photographers on 14th January at Faringdon Community College.

The Young Writers workshops were facilitated by Julie Farmer, Val Hughes and Sue Cain of the Faringdon Writers Group. With encouragement and guidance the youngsters were set the task of

developing a written piece based on the subject “Reflections”. At the end of each session some impressive pieces were read aloud.

President Sarah and Colin facilitated the Young

Photographers workshops which included a discussion of the characteristics of photographs and general guidance on what makes a good photo. This session was interactive with opportunity to take photos in the room using creativity and experimentation in unusual situations.

Again, the

interaction and enthusiasm in discussion and experimentation was excellent.

The workshops have been in preparation for Rotary’s Young Photographer and Young Writer competitions. Each competition is divided into three age groups 7-10, 11-13 and 14-17. Young persons unable to attend the workshop/s may still take part in the competition/s. Current advertising encourages them to submit entry forms as soon as possible – competition work to be submitted by March 18th 2017, and an open meeting will be held in the Pump House on April 1st to announce the results. Full details and entry forms are available to download from our website or by email: rotarycomp2017@aol.com
