In Conversation With - Liz Hambleton . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A new direction

This month we chat to Liz Hambleton, Editorial Director at Wahanda, to discover what introduced her to the beauty industry and how she lives her life now.

I ended up in the beauty industry because I applied for an internship at InStylemagazine, where I worked in both the fashion and beauty departments. I loved both but quickly realised how varied and interesting the world of beauty is.

The best thing about my job is the people! I’ve met and worked with some incredibly talented, passionate and dynamic people throughout my career and I now count many of them as close friends, as well as colleagues. I’ve also been lucky enough to travel the world during the last ten years of my career.

An average day for me includes waking up at around 6am, in order to squeeze a yoga session in. I tend to have breakfast meetings with PR and editorial contacts a few mornings a week which is always lovely. When I get into the office I try to balance a busy day of meetings with building content for our new editorial platform and working with our other markets on brand photography and social media. Lunch is always at my desk but I do tend to pop out to beauty launches and press events throughout the day. I get home around 7.30-8pm and try to cook most evenings.

If I wasn’t in the beauty industry I would devote my life to animals! I would love to have an animal sanctuary or rescue horses and rehabilitate them.

When growing up I have to say that I was obsessed with beauty and fashion from quite a young age. Kate Moss was my ultimate pin up as a girl.

My favourite beauty treatment is either an Environ Active Vitamin Facial which never fails to pep up my skin or a very holistic, essential oil-based full body massage. I try to have both at least once a month.

My top beauty tip is, ‘brows are everything’. Regularly groomed eyebrows really pull your look together. I also swear by cleansing oils and cleansing balms for a glowing complexion.

My favourite book is The Secret Garden. It’s a book that really captured my imagination growing up. When I left my role as Beauty Director at Graziamagazine and started my new job at Wahanda, I was gifted a copy of Techbitch by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza. A colleague thought it was very apt!

At the top of the guilty pleasures list would be any kind of reality TV. I try not to watch it but somehow it just sucks me in.

My strengths are creativity and adapting to a fast paced, changing environment. I’m also very, very loyal and a really good listener.

You might not know that I have never had a spray tan. Shocking I know in my line of work.

I couldn’t live without my amazing and very naughty Ragdoll cat Coco. Yoga is also an essential part of life for me.

The motto I live by is, ‘Tomorrow is a new day’.

I would like to be remembered as someone people can really count on.
