Globally recognised for its results-driven facial and body care treatments, Ericson Laboratoire’s success only continues to thrive. This month, we take a look back at the brand’s early history and discover the secrets behind its continuing popularity…

The story of Ericson Laboratoire first begins in post-war Europe, when Professor Ericson, a Swedish doctor, decided to settle in France during the 1950s. A biologist and researcher, Professor Ericson was also a student of noted Professor Alexis Carrel, another well-known biologist who had been awarded the Nobel Prize of Medicine in 1912.

With a passion for research and medicine, Professor Ericson’s early career saw him working in a hospital where he specialised in the surgery and the repair of burned skin tissue. Yet, it was upon meeting his wife when life decided to take him in a new direction. Amazed by her husband’s skills, Mrs Ericson, a qualified beautician, asked Professor Ericson to assist in treating some of her clients' skin problems. The results were far beyond their expectations.

In 1962, the couple opened the first Ericson Beauty Treatment Centre. Here, Professor Ericson implemented his ‘Cellulotherapy’ treatment into practice. This Swiss clinical method was

considered very in-vogue at the time and consisted of the injection of living cell extracts.

Nearly two decades later, the arrival of another female presence once again proved a turning point for the Ericsons. In 1983, Lydie Du Martin, a qualified pharmacist, nutritionist, scientist and businesswoman, came on board. While following the philosophy and ethics that had been implemented by Professor Ericson, she drew up the profile of what was to become the Ericson Laboratoire brand, and created a national distribution structure in professional beauty salons.

Results-driven products

Nearly 30 years later, Ericson Laboratoire is now available in 60 countries worldwide. Here in Ireland, the brand is distributed by Hennessy Hair & Beauty.

“It first came to our attention when attending a trade show in the UK to source a luxurious skin care brand that gave results,” explains Susan McCarthy, Director of Hennessy Hair & Beauty. “At the time, there were a lot of skin care brands in the Irish market that looked very pretty and smelled amazing but were not results-driven. We spotted the gap in the market and saw that Ericson had all of the characteristics we were looking for. We tried and tested the products and were blown away by the results. From this moment on, Ericson Laboratoire became part of the Hennessy family.”

Still heavily influenced by Professor Ericson’s original medical aesthetic approach, the current Ericson Laboratoire range encompasses a comprehensive collection of products and treatments to address a multitude of skin care and body concerns.

“What sets the brand apart from others which are similar is results – Ericson products are strictly results-driven,” says Susan. “[They provide] a ‘non- surgical concept’ of beauty with rapid effects and are designed for everyone, giving pure skin care for the face or body with visible and lasting results without the need for medical interventions. It provides beauty salons the strength to be able to give their clients less expensive alternatives to surgery, whilst also relaxing the body and mind.”

The brand’s first offering was the Bio Pure product range, sold to salons looking for a treatment option to help oily and problem skin types.

Alongside the Bio Pure line (which is still available today), the brand’s facial collections now include Hydra Clinic, an intensive hydro nutritive treatment; Enzymacid, surfacing peeling technology which provides ‘accelerated’ exfoliation to reveal renewed skin; Energy Lift, a line of non- surgical dermo cosmetics to reshape the facial contours; Derma-Calm, for treating ultra-sensitive skin; Genxskin, an anti-ageing control system and Skinjexion, an anti-wrinkle treatment.
