Blessings Gilda

‘Five things you are grateful for. You go first’ is a game my partner, Brian, and I sometimes play at the conclusion of our day. Often, it goes on and on with ease and joy but there are also days I find it difficult. On those days it is hard for me to realise how privileged I am to be lying in a warm bed, I have a full tummy and live in a country where there is no war raging, that no one in my family is tortured or abducted and that I enjoy good health.

There are many definitions of abundance. Some examples in my life include, opening the fridge to find an abundance of food; the richness of the network in my address book; the wideness of the sky and autumn harvest, ‘the quality of a smile’, the inspiration of a conversation.

What are your moments, treasures, small or large ways of experiencing abundance? I am inviting you to make a list, a mind map, a collage, a drawing or whatever works for you. Counting blessings and cultivating gratitude brings us into the present. Counting our blessings creates positive energy, which attracts more positive energy. Counting blessings and gratitude are transformative forces.

Having acknowledged the abundance in our lives, how do we realise it?

Firstly, if you know very well what you do not want, ask yourself what you would like instead. State it in the positive.

Secondly, make your targeted outcome a 6

manageable size. Making the change from all the things that are challenging in your life to addressing one specific theme can be helpful and, because everything is connected, stepping forward in one specific place will cause a ripple-on effect.

Thirdly, what will be the testimony of your achieved outcome? If you would like more financial abundance, how will you know when you have got it? How much money specifically do you want, and in what period of time? How much quality time with a valued friend would make the difference? And how will you recognise that you have nourished the inner part of you that has been a bit neglected? If whatever you wish for knocked at your door, would you recognise it and invite it in gladly, or hurry on striving towards your goal?

And lastly, do what needs doing, of course. You will not win the lottery if you never buy a ticket. Being proactive means taking responsibility.

As the autumn leaves are falling fast in the North of Scotland, I’d like to share with you my recipe for abundance cookies: gratitude (plenty of it); clearly defined outcomes (positive and specific); remember the proof of the pudding; do what needs doing; and then add good pinch of laughter. Please do share your abundance with your friends as well!
