On Your Goals… Marion

Do you ever decide on a goal or make a plan, only to find that your focus waxes and wanes from day to day and

circumstance to circumstance? It is so easy to eventually lose focus altogether. (Laurel; Golden Iris; Cabbage; Apple essences).

So how do you stay focussed and on track?

Remind yourself consistently what your goal is and why you have that goal.

Write it down somewhere you’ll see it every morning and night, for example, a post-it note on your dressing table and refrigerator and computer. You can also keep a note card in your pocket or handbag, with your goal written on it, and read it throughout the day (one of my favourite times to do this is while sitting on the loo!).

Create a vision board which is a collage of images, pictures and affirmations of your dreams and desires. It’s a good way to bring your visualizations to life by activating the Universal Law of Attraction. They are inexpensive and easy to make. Google ‘vision board’ or visit www.wikihow.com/Make-a- Vision-Board on how to make and use a vision board. My favourite backdrop is a large sheet of shiny gold cardboard.

Ask a good friend (choose a friend who has a sincere, positive mental attitude) to support

you by having them frequently speak a statement to you that affirms you achieving your goal, e.g. “Your life is going to be even more wonderful when you ................. (state the goal)”.

From my experience, I notice that I can lose my focus under certain circumstances, usually when I feel overwhelmed with tasks that need doing (Daisy; Valerian essences). If my goal is to find some time in each day for rest and recreation and I realise I am pushing myself too hard, (also Sycamore essence) I can remember to look at my goal card

and/or say my affirmation, “Each day gives me precious golden moments of re-creation when I take the time to be still”.

One effective tool is to visualise and experience how you will be when you achieve your goal. Close your eyes and experience yourself achieving your goal. If motivation wavers, (Cabbage essence) remind yourself of the feelings you expect to experience when your goal is accomplished. I imagine myself in my garden. I realise that when I take time to be in nature, I feel happy and refreshed. This motivates me to go out and take a walk, or sit under a tree. Then I can go back to my work with renewed vigour and creativity.
