am-dram productions have earned them an excellent repu- tation from the many loyal fam- ilies, for whom, this popular annual post-Christmas event is a highlight in the venue’s calen- dar. This year, the group will perform to over 2000 theatre- goers, presenting eight separate performances over five days, including two special school shows. Leiston Film Theatre manag-

LEISTON’S acclaimed Bright Sparks Theatre Group are urg- ing panto-goers to buy their tickets before it’s too late, as the talented group make final prepa- rations, ahead of their next tradi- tional family pantomime at the Leiston Film Theatre in January. The group’s latest offering,

Aladdin, appears live on stage at Leiston’s prestigious Film The- atre between Thursday 12th and Sunday 15th January, with demand for tickets so high, that a number of performances are already sold out and an addi- tional show has been added to meet demand on Sunday 15th January at 11.30am. The group are promising

another fun-filled pantomime adventure, packed to the panto brim with lots of ‘sing-a-long’ songs, stunning scenery and colourful costumes, as they tell one of the most beloved panto- mime tales of them all, as Alad- din’s journey takes him from rags to riches, encountering the Genie of the lamp, defeating the evil Abanazer and winning the heart of the beautiful Princess, all in two hours of traditional family frolics.

er and pantomime director, Wayne Burns, is looking for- ward to bringing this particular pantomime to the stage. “Pro- ducing our pantomimes to such a high standard takes a whole year and an incredible amount of team effort and we’re thrilled at having already sold out three of the six public performances. It will also be great to put the venue’s new dressing rooms to the test, as the cast of 70 will have lots more room backstage” he said. Bright Sparks will be joined

on stage by the very talented students of the Coral Stebbings School of Theatre Dance, who return to Pantoland once again, to make a special appearance. Aladdin will be appearing at

the Leiston Film Theatre on Thursday 12th (7.30pm), Friday 13th (7.30pm), Saturday 14th (2.30pm and 7.30pm) and Sun- day 15th (11.30am and 2.30pm) January. Limited tickets are still available for Thursday 12th, Friday 13th and Sunday 15th (11.30am) only, priced £11.50, £12.50 and £13.50 and can be purchased from the Leiston Film Theatre box office on 01728 830549 or online at: www.leistonfilmtheatre.co.uk

Cometh the hour Cometh the man

ROGER Osborne scored the winning goal for Ipswich Town in the FA Cup Final at Wembley in 1978 but his is no ordinary story. In fact, there is magic in the whole of Roger’s back- ground that caused him to arrive in the right place at the right time. Roger had not come through the usual football chan- nels. He was born at Otley, eight

miles north of Ipswich, to a car- ing mother and cowman father with a family of 14 to bring up. Father worked very hard and for long hours and was not interest- ed in ‘kicking a bag of wind about’ so Roger made his own entertainment, and started his employment upon the land. At the age of 20 he was still playing village football but that is when the real magic started and this is explained by Roger in a DVD of over an hour. This has been pre- pared by Neil Lanham and is now available from www.oral-

traditions.co.uk or for just £12 by post by sending a cheque for that amount to him at The Swal- lows, The Street, Botesdale, IP22 1BP. £1 of which will be given to the charity ACTIV- LIVES of which Roger is the patron. Not only did Roger mark

players such as Johan Cruyff ‘out of the game’ but opportuni- ty led him to play in the USA with his boyhood heroes before coming back to Colchester Foot- ball Club for five more happy years. He then played local foot- ball again until he finally hung up his boots at 45. Determined on the field and

self-effacing and contented off it, Roger epitomises all that is typical of the natural Suffolk character and is now never hap- pier than when enjoying the company of his wife Margaret, their three sons, daughters in law and three grandchildren.
