Debenham History Society

THE next Debenham History Society lecture ‘Cakes, Ale and Partying: Feasting and Fund- raising in Medieval Suffolk’ by Kate Jewell takes place on Tues- day 6th December. Medieval people worked hard

but also knew how to celebrate. This talk explores the ways in which medieval Suffolk com- munities marked important fes- tive occasions, and the activities they enjoyed at times of relax- ation and entertainment. We will also discover how celebra- tions and festivities were used at times of financial crisis. The lecture will be held at

Room 31, Debenham High School, Gracechurch Street, Debenham, IP14 6BL com- mencing at 7.30pm; fee £3 per lecture including a soft drink or tea/coffee in the interval. Enquiries to Clive Cook,

Chairman, 01728 861754. Email: debenhamhistory@ sky.com Non-members most welcome.

Wickham Market Flower Club

A DEFINITELY cooler and dark- er evening saw members arriving at our October meeting, with friends and potential new mem- bers. We welcomed Reg back as our first aid cover for the evening and our President Elsie presented a cheque as a donation to Valerie Follows from Respite Care, in thanks for his monthly care of us all.

Pam Bell from The Aspire Proj-

ect gave a short talk about the updates of the old Lehman House building. In partnership with De Vere Care it is planned to have an Integrated Health and Social Care Centre. To find out more there is an open session from 10.30am to 2pm in the Village Hall to meet the team and discuss all things concerned with this project. The Aspire project aims to provide opportunities for vulnerable adults and their family carers in a suitable environment. Our Presi- dent Elsie presented a cheque for £400 to Pam as our chosen fund- raising charity. This will go towards the purchase of a large TV. Elsie then went on to give us a

brief report on the Area meeting, the minutes of which were on the Notice board. The Sales table was heaving

with all sorts of sundries and the first outing of Christmas accesso- ries, and Jan was happy to receive items for the £1 table at the Open Meeting. June introduced us to Julie

Wood as our demonstrator and her theme was “Tantalising Cock- tails”. Each of the seven arrange- ments Julie created were loosely

FRAM 2/wooD 2 DECEMBER 2016

IN April this year an exciting new shop opened in the centre of Framlingham at 21 Market Hill. Olivie Studio is a family business with Sarah Markham joined by her daughters, Alexan- dra and Cosima. Sarah and Alex- andra man the shop and Cosima, who lives in Kenya, designs and sources products for the busi- ness. The shop is an eclectic mix of

colour and culture and came about through a love of travel and textiles that the whole family share. Though the shop is small, clients will find a stunning selec- tion of rugs, throws, textiles, handbags, jewellery, ceramics, cushions, baskets, scarves, cards and more! What is immediately apparent

is that much of what you see in this shop is unique to the area. The team simply love travel and design and a trip to Istanbul got the creative juices flowing and having been inspired by the bazaars and markets, the family decided this is what they would do.

This shop really is different.

Everything in Olivie is hand- picked by either Sarah, Alexandra or Cosima and their love of what they sell really comes across. All three have a background in design and so are more than happy to offer the benefit of their talent to clients who are looking at intro- ducing new items to their home. Alexandra explains that they are regularly sent pictures from their clients showing what their new rug, throw or ceramic centrepiece looks like in their home. Custom- ers leave Olivie engaged and inspired and their homes will

And of course, there are lots of charity Christmas cards, along- side the fine quality greetings cards we stock all through the year from Medici, Green Pebble and Hallo. Our own ‘Spirit of Woodbridge’ calendars and a variety of Green Pebble calendars are also on sale. You can even buy your Christ-
