Double Street Advent Calendar Window Display

DOUBLE Street will again be holding their Advent Calendar Window display. Double St is a small, historic street in Fram- lingham, situated opposite the church. Each day from Decem- ber 1st to December 24th a dif- ferent house in the street will

display a decorated window for you to look at. We invite visitors to walk along the street to enjoy the display and to contribute to our charity collection which will start on December 10th. We aim to keep the windows open until Monday 2nd January.

Film@Fram 7th December Florence Foster Jenkins

THE biopic film showing on Wednesday 7th December will be ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ (2016), who provided musical instru- ments for underprivileged chil-

dren and who, despite her tone deafness, was determined to become an opera singer. An heir- ess from New York City, she always wanted to be a concert pia- nist and play Carnegie Hall. An injury in her youth deterred that dream. So she sets out to sing her way to Carnegie Hall knowing the only way to get there would be “Practice, Practice, Practice”. Her husband supports her venture and the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins playing Carnegie Hall becomes a truly historic event. Stars: Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg PG. 111 mins. Come to the Conservative

Club, Church Street, Framling- ham, 7pm for 7.30pm on Wednes- day 7th December. All welcome. Entrance for Film@Fram mem- bers £4: visitors/guests £6. Like our page on Facebook https:// www.facebook.com/filmatfram for the latest film news.

Fram Flyers

THEY say “Charity begins at home…” But before I come to that I should mention the Flyers annual Suffolk Winter League cross country event. The races are the first in the series of five events held throughout the winter months. There are three separate races on the day, One for the under 11’s, one for 11 - 16 year olds and one for runners of 17 and over and all are started from the Castle Meadow with the latter two following footpaths and moat over one or three laps from there. The under 11’s run two laps of the Castle Meadow over some strate- gically placed obstacles. As entries are ‘on the day’ only we have no idea until everyone is at the start how many runners there are and this year this was quite a shock as all three races had record numbers of entrants - 72 in the under 11’s, 103 11-16’s and 441 in the senior race. This is about 150 more than at any previous race and caused a few problems

on the course and at the finish, but nothing the team could not cope with. At least, with the weather over the preceding weeks having been mostly dry, there was no mud and therefore no problem staying upright. But even this led to some cheeky complaints about the unusual underfoot conditions in a race which has become noted for its mud. The 11 - 16’s race was domi-

nated by Ipswich Harriers with 8 of the first 10 finishers represent- ing them. However the Junior Flyers acquitted themselves well with 17 running their socks off for the club led home by Bradley Potts and Poppy Branton. There were also 15 Junior Flyers in the under 11’s race led home by Wil- liam Gilmour.

In the Senior race

47 Flyers were competing along with runners from 18 other Suf- folk clubs with the men’s ‘A’ team finishing third and the ladies ‘A’ team claiming first spot. There were also high placings in various age groups with Marion Walker and Adam Howlett both winning their respective age groups. The next event is at Sutton, near Woodbridge, on December 4th when we hope to field an even larger team. But to get back to the title of this piece. At 11am on Sunday

6th November a group of 10 Junior Flyers, aged 12 - 14 set off, with support from three coaches and three senior members of the club, ready to run from Dunwich Beach to the Moot Hall, Alde- burgh, a distance of 9.5 miles. This is further than any of them had run before and would prove to be a test of their endurance, strength and stamina. Just over one week previously they had completed a one hour, seven mile training run so confidence was fairly high tempered with slight apprehension, mostly from the club members and coaches who were tasked with trying to keep up with them. The youngsters decided to run for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust as one of their club mates, Lucas, has this condition and they felt that a run which would test them was what was needed. All 10 of them complet- ed the run with smiles on their faces and a sprint for the finish and were greeted by Lucas who handed out some sweet treats to thank them for their efforts. In the process they have raised (at time of writing) £2,500. If you would like to add to this
