whilst checking BSO accounts for contractors I have noticed a few coding errors on minor ailments prescription items. Errors commonly occur by coding the quantity incorrectly.

you are advised to check the code Book for the correct quantity as there are differences:

Example 1 canesten thrush cream 2% 20g =

79095 / 20 ✓ code number of grams dispensed If you code the quantity as the number of packs, i.e., 79095 / 1 the prescription is paid as 1 gm of cream.

Example 2 canesten combi Pessary/cream 500mg/2% = 179097 / 1 ✓

code number of packs dispensed when the preparation ordered is a combiPack or duo Pack it is usually coded over the number of packs. Please be careful when coding these to avoid an underpayment.

• Remember to code the consultation fee if you have had a patient consultation with or without an item being prescribed.

do you check your BSO statement? do you really know if you have been paid correctly?

Uca can help advise you how to check your statement thoroughly or our experienced team can run an expert check for you each month. checks reveal that approximately 1/3 of errors found have occurred in the pharmacy with 2/3 of errors happening during the BSO process, so it makes sense to check

all payments not just your expensive items.

Regular monthly checks can find £1000s in underpayments over the year. we can also guide you through the query process to correct your payment with BSO.

for more information or a confidential chat, call katie mckittrick or dany Bambrick on 028 9065 6576. you can also speak to katie in person at your upcoming Uca local meetings.
