bomber ‘R for Robert’ in the Bellman Hangar where it has been for over 25 years. All other aircraft and most of the exhibits had already been relocated prior to handing the Hangar over to the contractors, so the opportunity was too good to miss. The shoot began early in the evening and carried on into the night to capture different moods and to be able to add lighting to great effect when darkness fell. A generous donation was made to the Museum as well as the use of the images after the shoot for future promotion and as a lasting record.

Summer Holiday Activities The Learning Team was very busy this summer, delivering family activities every weekday. In total we’ve welcomed over 750 children and their families. They took part in activities such as ‘Ticket to Fly’, ‘Build a Bicycle’, ‘The Great Build-Off’ and ‘Let’s go Fly a Kite’.

We also delivered for the first time this year a Summer Science Club aimed at children aged 10 to 15 years old. During the two weeks of activities, specially designed to engage children in having fun with science, participants took part in the ‘Brooklands School of Flying’ sessions and learned more about the different skills involved in flight such as meteorology, navigation and flight instruments.

The second week was entitled ‘Build it at

Brooklands’ and children were challenged to build structures while investigating shapes, materials and the science behind structures. Both weeks of activities were popular with staff and participants and we plan to run them again next year.

Mini Aces Club

The Museum’s monthly Mini Aces Club for under-fives has started again after a summer break, it meets on the second Thursday of each month. In September’s session the children found out about friendship and made their own club badges, before learning how to work as a team to complete a fun game together. October’s session focussed on museums and exploring the Clubhouse as Mini Curators. On 10th November the children will be learning about ‘People Who Help Us’. Our last session before Christmas will
