For all the details, we got in touch

with Covey to find out moreabout this theatrical art show, taking place one night only onSaturday, November 19.

What can you tell us about the show? It’s an evolving evening of live art and performance. The audience will experience behind the scenes preparation for the finale “play” and artists will give live and recorded talks about their process and history throughout the evening. It’s a loosely threaded story of love, betrayal, magic and greed told with dance, music, narration, painting, live performance and projected graphics, lighting and sound. How did the concept of the show come to be? The concept germinated over two years ago. I

ONE NIGHT OF VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS

by cesar reyes We atThe Rage Monthly are excited and looking forward to a live perfor-

mance/art event from the creative genius that is photographer, Dennis Covey. For over a decade now, Covey’s creativity and photography have mesmerized our readers with cover images of beautiful models and breathtaking fashion

spreads, which have helped to make our magazine one of Southern California’s greatest. When the promotional material for this event hit social media, we were compelled to make sure it appears on everyone’s radar and calendar because of its captivating concept and unique imagery.

work with an incredibly talented group of indi- viduals in my commercial photography: Makeup artists, hair artists, costume designers, graphic artists and retouchers and of course, the models. Much of what we do is viewed by consumers, without any concept about the process or the full scope of the talented individuals who create the images. I wanted to do a show that celebrated and showcased these artists. It began when I approached one of the designers I work with, David Santillanes, about creating a design that was more haute couture, one that we could use to showcase the talented people I work with. TheQueen of Hearts design he created blew us all away and thus was born the idea of Crimson Ice. What are the components of the show? Much like a theatre performance, the audience

will receive a souvenir program and there will be live music, dance, an artist painting real-time, photography, projected graphics, sculpture and live performances. The evening is staggered, so that mini events happen at certain times throughout the evening, culminating in a performance that combines all of the elements into a playlet.

Crimson Ice takes place at Abridged Gallery, 1991 Main Street. For more information, go to facebook.com/ denniscoveyart/events
