Liverton Hill The boom of the hill had been resurfaced andwater ran through the resurfacing. Cllr Turner would ask Sue LaPorte if the whole hill could be resurfaced. Ditches and gullies The gully outside Homesteadwas still blocked, so badly that the camera could not get through it. Gullies were also blocked outside Maples, and overflowed when it rained. UKPower NetworksAn electric cable had been repaired in Church Road, outside Ash Tree Farm. They partly backfilled the trench correctly, but ran out of the correct material and backfilled about three metres with excavated material finished with gravel on top as a temporary measure. Therewere concerns this would soon sink and become a
rut.Aresident spoke to the workmen and was assured that this would be rectified, but this had not happened by the time of the meeting. The clerkwas to contact them. Police report There had been two crimes – an aggravated vehicle taking in Forge Lane and a theft from a motor vehicle at Arran Bank Stables. Itwas noted that all police and some PCSOswear bodycams. Allotment The original applicant no longer wanted the allotment and it had been advertised on thewebsite and Facebook, with no interest. Itwas agreed to ask if the school could make use of it and if not, to advertise it in the next newsleer. The resident who had collected the rent in the past could no longer do so. Itwas agreed that the clerk would write to allotment holders to arrange payment through BACS or by cheque. Verges Cllr Vanessa Jones had wrien to Cllr Carter asking how the parish council could take over the maintenance of the verges and what funding might be available to do so. Footpaths All three footpaths had been resurfaced. Councillorswere assured they would harden over time, but might need rolling again. Village hall licence The village hall had submied an application to vary its premises licence to allow the sale of alcohol. The hours requestedwere less than the last application. Questionswere raised over the use of the garden and whether the diocese had been informed. Members of the public were invited to comment and some felt more claritywas required. 14,000 books for sale THE annual Great Leeds Book Sale at St Nicholas’ Church will be held on November 11 and 12. For the first time, the church will be open from 4pm
until 8.30pm on the Friday as well as the usual Satur- day opening from 10am to 2.30pm. The Friday opening will allow local people who are
busy on Saturdays to browse the 14,000 books for sale. Organiser Brian Hardy said: “For a sale of this size,
we obviously need to get support from a wide area and it has now become amajor local attraction – it is not just for Leeds residents.” Donations of unwanted books can be made to the

The Larches Cllr Evernden said he had circulated details about suggestions for the Freedom of Information request to all members for information. The chairman said he had found the original documents regarding the purchase of the Larches in the archives and he would circulate this to all members. Weeds Cllr Kennard asked about theweeds on PrincesWay and the clerk said these had been reported to Kent Highways. Horish Wood. Itwas reported that the padlock on the gate at Horish Woodwas still broken. The clerk would follow this up with CTRL. Vacancy No applications had been received for the parish council vacancy and itwas agreed that it should be advertised in the Detling News until itwas filled. Police report The chairman raised concerns about theway vehicles parked at the junction of Hockers Lane andWare Street. PCSOAdlington said parking had now been decriminalised andwas the responsibility of Maidstone Borough
Council.An application had been made for yellow lines, but this had not been actioned by KCC. PCSOAdlington said off-road bikes had been seen using Jade’s Crossing and asked if thiswas a regular occurrence. Death announcement The chairman spoke about the sad loss of former parish councillor and chairman Dr Gavin McLaggan. He paid tribute to him and his work on the parish council. Sign damagedAresident reported that the U-turn sign at the junction of the A249 and Church Lane had been knocked down. Burial groundAresident asked whether hedges would be planted by the new fence of the burial ground to make it more private. Cllr Clayton said the projectwas undertaken by the PCC and the parish council to improve the area. He said it had been agreed
that grass would be seeded. . DogwalkersAresident raised concerns about dogwalkers using the public footpath across his field and trespassing on his land. Itwas agreed that an item would be placed in the Detling News reminding residents that dogs should be kept under control on footpaths that crossed private land. Ducklings playgroup Cllr Kennard had spoken to the playgroup manager regarding their wooden play equipment and the possibility of the parish council buying this if the opportunity arose. She spoke regarding the shed that the parish council had bought for the playgroup and asked whether this could be used elsewhere. BT kiosk Cllr Kennardwas still trying to find an electrician to install the defibrillator in the BT box. Horish Wood Cllr Evernden said the reinstatement work at the woodland had been undertaken to a very poor standard. He said the parish council needed to make a decision on theway forward and raised concerns with regards to the work and the management of the job. The chairman proposed that they write to the chairman of South EastWater to seek a meeting and a resolution. Thiswas agreed. Environmental improvements The improvements in Church Lane had been undertaken as agreed. The total cost of the workwas £1,642. Thiswas discussed by members and itwas agreed that the parish council would cover the cost of the project. Village hall Members discussed the parking arrangements at the village hall and the clerkwas asked to undertake a land search to establish the ownership of the verge outside the hall. Villager of the year Itwas agreed that an advert seeking nominations for the villager of the year award would be placed in the Detling News.
Downswood
Council vacancy Three candidates expressed an interest. Following consideration, two candidateswere asked to aend the October meeting when it will be possible to co-opt them both. Verge cuing Three residents of Foxden Drive asked why KCC had not kept promises to cut the verge. Cllr Cooke had raised the issue with the district manager and itwas being investigated. Mallards The area around the roundabout was to be resurfaced. The roundabout needed to beweeded urgently.
