Parish could
purchase land THE acquisition of land next to the play area inAverenches Road from KCC is to be investigated. Councillors felt the strip of land
has become a “nuisance car park for youths and lorry drivers”. They hope to consider the costs
more fully and investigate how much money is being held by Maidstone Council for community uses from the development of the Kent Frozen Food site.
point, according to councillors - evi- denced by a photograph taken by someone with a toddler in a buggy, forced to walk in the road to get round a parked car. THURNHAM parish councillors confessed to being undecided about plans for Detling aerodrome. warned KCC, which put a £3,000 price tag on painting the no parking lines: “Dowe have towait for some- one to be killed to get some action? “We have no problem with park-
ing by the golf course entrance where the vision of on-coming traffic is clear, but to park near a bend, where residents have to cross the road, is a clear hazard.” Vice chairman Cllr Richard Smith
said: “People know where the park- ing restrictions are in the area and we have seen people parking on the brow ofHoggHill since itwas resur-
faced and the yellow lines covered up. If the county council does not act, this problem will spread, with people parking all along this road.” Councillors agreed to ask for a site meeting with county councillor Jenny Whittle and KCC leader Paul Carter to show them the dangers. Cllr Smith added: “It will be moneywell spent ifwe offered £500 towards the cost of yellow lines.” A letter will also be sent to Bearsted Parish Council encourag- ing it to support the parking restric- tions.
Airfield plan to go to council Diary dates Cllr Skinner said: “We will ex-
plain that we are a long way from making a decision on this and views are potentially split, which is only right. “Therefore, any application will
be considered by the whole parish council and any resident is wel- come to attend our next meeting on November 21 to give their view.”
Riding arena at farm is approved A RETROSPECTIVE planning application for an indoor equestrian area at Coldblow Farm attracted no complaints from councillors. Members acknowledged that the arena had been used by the public for nine years and that the application “ties up loose ends”.
