his summer there will be a new host in the Cartier Marquee on Queen’s Cup Finals Day – Laurent Feniou. The Managing Director of Cartier Ltd has
succeeded Arnaud Bamberger as head of the leading jeweller and watchmaker in Britain. “Cartier’s relationship with polo is historically distinctive and we have built up a unique legacy over the past 30 years,” he said. “The polo players’ passion and commitment is very akin to the values of Cartier. I am looking to personally meet as many of the players as possible – patrons and professionals – throughout the tournament.” As a fluent Spanish speaker Laurent is able to interact with the leading players from South America in their mother tongue. “My great grandfather was Spanish and I spent my military service as a naval officer in the French Embassy in Madrid.” Laurent Feniou, who has been living in London for the past 20 years, considers the city home for himself, his wife Carine and his two teenage sons who attend British schools. Headhunted from the most straight-laced and traditional of financial institutions, Rothschild, where he had been Managing Director since 2001, Laurent’s involvement with polo may see him bumping into some familiar faces from his banking days. His boss at Rothschild was Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, a former polo patron at Guards Polo Club and winner of the first Queen’s Cup tournament in 1960 with his Centaurs team. ➤
