hris Mathias stepped forward for the second time in his playing career to receive the Bentley Royal Windsor Cup from HM The Queen. His
team Clarita had previously added its name to this prestigious trophy in 2012. However this year’s final was particularly significant as Guards Polo Club was celebrating its Diamond Jubilee and the Royal Windsor Cup was the first trophy to be played for in the Club’s opening season back in 1955. In this jubilee, five-chukka final Clarita dominated the match, overwhelming Momin Sheikh’s Bridge House of Twyford team 16-7. The many spectators and Bentley’s VIP guests, watching from the Royal Box Terrace, may have been expecting a closer game as Clarita were only 8-6 up at half-time, after strong and competitive performances from both teams. As Bridge House of Twyford was the only one of the 17 entries not to have suffered a defeat in the league stages of the tournament the half-time score still showed that this final was still very open and could go either way. However the final two chukkas told a very different story. The South African international Chris Mackenzie and George Meyrick, a Guards Polo Club Ambassador, combined brilliantly for Clarita to create an unassailable lead. This duo dominated by winning the line-outs and then successfully running the ball to goal.
