Fifth Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show
O
cean Marina Pattaya Boat Show returns for a fifth year with the largest display of boats and lifestyle
products to date. Held at Ocean Marina in Pattaya, Thailand, from 24-27 November, this event has been a catalyst for the Gulf of Thailand’s marine industry promoting the onshore facilities and offshore cruising grounds worldwide. “Since launching Ocean Marina
Pattaya Boat Show five years ago, we have seen considerable growth in marine tourism and boat use in the Gulf of Thailand. The boat show has helped to position this region as a leading marine destination in South-East Asia. Both the number of boat-owners overseas choosing Ocean Marina to base their boats and the number of Thai people buying boats in the region has increased, and this trend looks to continue,” said Scott Finsten, Harbour Master, Ocean Marina. With 22 boats up to 119 ft in length
at last year’s show, the organisers are planning for an even bigger and better display this year, and have
expanded the in-water display space to accommodate the increased interest. “Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat
Show continues to attract leading marine and luxury brands and 2016 looks to set a new benchmark. With increased exhibition space onshore and in-the-water, and already many top boat brands having confirmed their attendance, we’re looking forward to welcoming more than 6,000 visitors and showcasing the Gulf of Thailand,” commented Dr Tirachai Pipitsupaphol, Managing Director, Ocean Property. Last year, 68% of visitors to the
show were Thai, a key demographic for organisers and exhibitors, and a statistic in line with Ocean Marina’s experience of a boom in the number of Thai people spending time on the water. “The number of Thai people
enjoying the boating lifestyle has increased exponentially in the last five years. Not only are more Thais coming to Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show as a way to learn about boating and to research and buy products, but we see more Thai people chartering boats,

getting out on the water and enjoying the beautiful marine playground here in the Gulf of Thailand,” added Mr Finsten.
In addition to the impressive line-
up of boats, cars and luxury lifestyle exhibitors, highlights for visitors to the Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show will include daily yacht cruises, kayak and paddleboat trials, jetpack flying board demonstrations and games, plus a food and drinks festival. Marine Industry Foundation sets sail
The Marine Industry Foundation conducted its first public fund-raising and grants presentation function at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron on 15 July. The luncheon was considered a great success by those in attendance with over $38,000 in funds raised and the first grants announced. The event was also successful in
promoting the Foundation’s mission to broaden community access to the benefits of recreational boating and to assist the marine industry to grow and develop as a significant provider of social, recreational and employment opportunities. Howard Glenn, Chairman of the Marine Industry Foundation, welcomed guests and thanked the 34 event sponsors and prize donors that most

significantly contributed to the raising of funds to support the Foundation’s mission. He said, “I would like to acknowledge in particular the generosity of Foundation patron Jeff d’Albora, who is matching dollar for dollar funds raised up to $200,000”. One of the highlights of the
function was the illuminating talk by guest speaker Rob Mundle, OAM. He provided colourful insights into the transformation of Sydney Harbour boatsheds into Australia’s first marinas due to the foresight of Ron d’Albora and carried on most successfully by his son Jeff. With the glorious backdrop of Sydney Harbour behind him, Rob also enlightened the audience with anecdotes of numerous famous boating personalities, who have spent time

on the Harbour, including the late and legendary Bob Oatley, AO. With the first grants announced
at the event, Howard Glenn said the Foundation is seeking to widen its support aligned with the Foundation’s mission. “The next round of funding and scholarship support will be announced after the close of submissions on 30 September. The Foundation will also be shortly announcing dates for fund-raising events in Perth and the Gold Coast. I would encourage all those interested in giving back to our industry to get behind these events through donating to the Foundation and by providing auction items.” Marine Industry Foundation
