hundred feet with a thirty ton vessel not benefiting from bow thrusters and all the posh tech do-dahs that others have is an adventure in itself! Just going from the town jetty to our mid river summer mooring was hair raising. Due to the type and weight of our craft, you have to ease off the power a while before you arrive at where you want to end up. You need to get it right first time. Hub was advised about this but slightly under revved on a turn which caused the engine to stall. oh. We are now drifting with no power down a busy river. A yacht is slowly approaching us, unaware. However, we have discussed and prepared for such a contingency and therefore he was very calm about it (panic gets you nowhere) and merely asked me to pray or take the helm - whichever came naturally first - as he went down the hatch to restart it. It didn’t fire up for the first two turns and so figuring that there was still some play in the helm, I opted to pray. It fired up at once. (That’ll teach him!) In fact he’d got our angle of approach so perfect that we would have arrived at our mooring with or without power. I feel so proud of him in these situations. (I clearly have got water on the brain!) needless to say, once securely roped in place, he did demand a large measure of well-deserved Lagavulin! But I do wish that when people ask Hub where we met that he wouldn’t say, “Well, I was in this brothel in Cairo…”. It wasn’t. It was a brothel in Mexico actually. His memory is quite atrocious…
