COUNCILLORS agreed unani- mously to support a call for dou- ble yellow lines onWare Street to tackle “selfish parking”. Members heard that while com-


mon sense had previously pre- vailed, motoristswere parking on the road at its bend with Sandy Lane and creating a hazard for drivers and pedestrians.

Homes agreed CONCERN was expressed about the planning process in Maidstone following approval of plans for 1,300 homes off the Sutton Road. Councillors were concerned that


the three projects – next to the Lan- gley Park development – were agreed in spite of local opposition and a review by the Inspector of the neighbourhood plan. Several coun- cillors had abstained from voting. Members felt this, again, left res-


idents feeling that elected borough councillorswere being told what to do by unelected officers.."


Councillors said vehicles were


being parked on the road and pavement without regard for mo- torists whowere forced to acceler- ate around them, or for pedestrians who had to step into the road to get past. There were particular concerns


about the safety of pedestrians who cross the road here as they


Peter wins heritage award


PETER Coolingwas presentedwith the coveted Thurnham Parish Heritage Award. Valence and Langley parishes attended, demonstrating the high regard in which Mr Cool- ing, from Teston Parish Coun- cil, is held. Mr Cooling thanked the parish council for the award, saying he was accept- ing it on behalf of the team at the JPG.

raised with Bearsted Parish Coun- cil, as the road runs through the parish, and county councillor Jenny Whittle also agreed to raise the issue with her colleagues in Highway Services.


Verges cut COUNCILLORS were pleased to note that the verges in Bearsted Park had been cut, after raising concerns at their last meeting, Jenny Whittle had found out that


the grass on Averenches Road was supposed to be cut eight times a year.


Church music


THE success of two recent concerts at Thurnham church was ap- plauded by parish councillors. The fund-raisers, for the NSPCC and St Mary’s,were both sell-outs.


Parish tour THE annual parish tour had been a great success.Councillors found it very useful to visit sites of particu- lar concern.
