Beginnings

Dear Readers, As we head into our fi ſt h year of Beyond the Gates, we wanted to thank

you for your support. Thanks for helping us bring and share good news with our community. We are so grateful to you for encouraging us to keep it up. Thank you, readers, for get ing tired of the fl uff and want- ing the real. There is so much taking our eyes off the good that still exists here and around the world. We have to love louder than the noise that sur- rounds our eyes and ears. This issue of Beyond the Gates is packed full of people and organizations making a diff erence in the lives of people

in our community. Isn’t that what it is all about at the end? What will our tombstone say, or what will our obituary read? “Here lies someone who had everything,” or “Here

lies someone who gave everything to help others”? It is our choice. This summer, as it slows down a tad in our community, we challenge you to in-

vestigate a nonprofi t and see what they do, what they need. It feels so much bet er to give than receive. If you are feeling gloomy, share you with someone else: your time, treasure or talent. See how much bet er you feel and the diff erence you make in a neighbor’s life.

Remember, always keep your faith; prayers work and miracles really do happen. From the team at Beyond the Gates
