WELDING

Trumpf makes laser welding and easy investment for subcontractors

job shops will a great opportunity to differentiate themselves and make good money in the process. To make the decision to adopt the technology even easier, TRUMPF has introduced its compact, TruLaser Robot 5020 Basic Edition with TruDiode laser which can reduce the initial outlay by up to 20%. And where a laser network is used, reductions of up to 50% are possible.

Laser welding offers significant benefits over other joining methods and leads the way for subcontractors to add value to the service they provide with design consultancy to maximise the qualities of this process. As a result, subcontractors can establish themselves as indispensable partners for product development. A laser-welded seam is virtually indestructible and it looks good, requiring no secondary finishing. Indeed, cost-savings on reworking of around 80% are not uncommon. And as the process introduces less heat into the workpiece, there is hardly any distortion, eliminating the need for subsequent levelling. Every conceivable kind of weld

methods guarantee much higher processing speeds, as well. Another benefit with laser welding is that expensive fixtures are only necessary for complex parts and in exceptional cases. Indeed, the clamping technology can often be manufactured with simple sheet metal designs and standardised parts. The entry level system TruLaser Robot 5020 Basic Edition from TRUMPF has a footprint of just 30 square metres and includes everything a manufacturer needs to perform automated deep penetration and heat conduction welding in mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium up to four millimetres thick. The proven rotate and tilt positioner further boosts productivity.

can be accomplished with laser and the different types have distinct advantages. Heat conduction welding, for example, results in seams with excellent surface

quality. Deep penetration welding creates a high-strength, narrow and deep seam which has a far higher tensile strength than a conventionally welded seam. Both

The TruDisk laser on either of these machines is switched from the machine to the robot welding cell in milliseconds. In this way, set-up and tool changing times on the companion machines can be efficiently used for laser welding.
