Body Mapping Prayer

We are the Body of Christ, but our flesh and bones take enormous “hits.” Body Mapping is a form of prayer that acknowledges trauma and stress and awakens the places of healing that God is inviting us to receive. Although Body Mapping may trigger many emotional memories, it is also a celebration of courage and strength. The process inludes drawing, painting, visualization exercises, group discussion, sharing and reflection.


Body Mapping was developed by Jane Solomon, a South African artist; and was first seen as an advocacy tool to bring attention to the issue of HIV/AIDS.

God’s first language is silence, and we will experience this fully in the environs of Orchard Hill where we will practice the seven daily offices of the Benedictine tradition and celebrate Eucharist. But mostly, we will practice the presence of God. One of our past participants has written: “The routines of day-to-day life have a tendency to become so routine that I do my tasks by my own power. A few days away reminded me of the importance of being still before God, of receiving his power through the Holy Spirit, and doing all I do through his power. This has reminded me that I need a “mini” retreat every day.”
