LETTER FROM BATH PLACE What’s up at the AGR office
Louise Iredale, Head of Graduate Recruitment & Development, Specsavers I am writing this tonight, still slightly in shock at the staggering numbers I have seen my team achieve today. Five hundred and fifty optometry undergraduates will join us shortly for their second year summer internship and four hundred and fifty optometry graduates will join our pre-registration programme in July! I am overawed by the privileged position we are in to offer these opportunities that can literally change lives.
It gives me immense pleasure to have joined the AGR this year; to be able to share ideas and learn from other professionals is a great gift. I have already learned such a lot from my first board meeting and my role on the membership project team. How exciting it is to help steer an organisation that is so positive, proactive and dedicated to its members. One unexpected outcome of joining the board was my ability to reconnect to the nerves and anticipation of a candidate attending that all important interview. I sat in the reception of Bath Place back in January, waiting for my
interview, really quite nervous! I hadn’t been in that situation for a number of years and isn’t it always a humbling but enriching process to get back in that mind-set? I look forward to assisting the membership of the AGR in the best way I can and look forward to meeting many of you at the conference in June.
One unexpected All the best, Louise
outcome of joining the board was my ability to reconnect to the nerves and anticipation of a candidate attending that all important interview.
