ielcome to our summer edition of Graduate Recruiter! The AGR Student Recruitment

Conference will shortly be taking place in Manchester (if you have not booked, do so now!) so we felt this magazine should have the same motifs: emerging talent, diversity, ROI and globalised recruitment.

We have used ‘emerging talent’ as the catch-all theme, as whether it is as an apprentice, a student from a different socio-economic background or from a different country, they are still ‘emerging’ from their hidden ‘talent’ habitat. We have also chosen this magazine to introduce a new Regular feature: Hear from AGCAS, where Elaine Boyes speaks of the changes in higher education (page 28).

We are sad to pass on the news that Roly Cockman, AGR’s first Chief Executive, passed away this Easter. He was 87 years old and died peacefully at his home. Those who knew Roly from his AGR days have shared

their memories of the man who brought AGR together (page 10).

In an exclusive from UCAS Media, we are pleased to provide a first look at the results of their latest Annual Careers Survey. Three-quarters of young people apparently have no fixed future employer in their mind; employers, early contact is therefore necessary, especially when less than half felt they had enough contact with potential recruiters (page 8).

With the upcoming EU referendum, many minds are on the global outlook, especially when it comes to recruitment. Futureboard provides a good introduction into what it means to go global (page 12), with AXA telling us their highly successful global recruitment game (page 14). Do not let borders and oceans get in your way, AXA says, when working with others in the global team; instead listen to their stories and further your own recruitment programmes. Coventry University expands on this,

In keeping with the themes of the upcoming AGR conference, Thales have spoken of how important ROI is when it comes to restructuring your recruitment and selection process. As their recognition has grown, so too have the application numbers, so they explain how successful their work with Saville Consulting, A Willis Towers Watson company was (page 22). The Careers Group adds to this discussion, showcasing how their Careers Registration mechanism gathers the data from all students through their online enrolment forms (page 24).

With all recruitment, many presume that you can only look externally for the much-needed talent. Both the Compass Group (page 26) and Dyson (page 27) ask what if the emerging talent they need is hidden in plain sight; inside their own workforce. They provide insightful reasons as to why and how the people you need may not be as far away as originally thought.

As the theme of our conference suggests, a recruitment revolution is coming. It is an exciting time as the whole industry could be turned upside down and inside out, giving you more ways to seek out talent that has previously been hidden. The question is, are you ready?
