AGR Conference 2016

Samuel Gordon,

AGR Conference I

n the past few months, we have emailed, tweeted and advertised in this magazine, on Linkedin and on

our website…but we still feel we have not done quite enough to show you how excited we are about the upcoming AGR Student Recruitment Conference 2016!

Our annual conference has been synonymous with AGR from when it started in 1968. The previous name of our body was in fact the Standing Conference of Employers of Graduates (SCOEG), so the conference has always been an intrinsic part of what we offer to our members.

2016 is no different. Actually, no, it is different; it is so much more exciting this year!

Our opening Keynote speaker is Nigel Jeremy, the Chief Learning Officer at British Airways, previously part of the award-winning team at Marks and Spencer…excited yet?

No? Well our next speaker is Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester, who became Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in June 2005, in recognition of her services to science.

AGR’s Research Officer and Dr Charlie Ball, Head of Higher Education Intelligence at Prospects will be exclusively launching the findings from the first ever AGR Diversity & Inclusion survey

Saj Jetha, Managing Director of Smarty Train, who is currently involved in a global project to reform the teaching of economics at undergraduate level, will also be speaking on Thursday…

If you are still not very excited and are not jumping to book your ticket straight away, please note all this is only for the first morning of the two day conference!

On Thursday, after many different insightful break-out sessions for you to choose from, Samuel Gordon, AGR’s Research Officer and Dr Charlie Ball, Head of Higher Education Intelligence at Prospects will be exclusively launching the findings from the first ever AGR Diversity & Inclusion survey.

Thursday is still not over though, as just after the launch of the survey, we will be holding our much-anticipated Gala Dinner, complete with the AGR Student Recruitment Awards. In keeping with this, the evening will have a theme of Hollywood glamour, so you will feel as if you have travelled all the way to Los Angeles for the Oscars ceremony! The awards ceremony will be hosted by Ed Byrne, the stand-up comedian with a global reach, having performed in the UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada and the United States of America.

Phew! All this in only one day! I bet you are wondering what Friday 24th June will be like…

The excitement does not end…Claudia Harris, CEO at The Careers & Enterprise Company starts the morning off with her session, followed closely by a plenary session on social mobility, fitting nicely in with the theme of diversity and the previous day’s launch of the Diversity & Inclusion survey.

After a great Friday filled with various break-out sessions showing you the latest news, insights and information in diversity, emerging talent, globalised recruitment and return on investment, we are very proud to announce that Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, winner of eleven Gold medals in five Paralympic Games, will be closing the conference for this year. With a particular focus on sport, disability, health, welfare and youth development she has made significant contributions to debates on welfare reform and sports governance.
