GOOD MORNING FROM LINCOLN!


Well, since our last edition, the Association staff and volunteers have continued to bring about new or revised events like the Holiday Party fundraiser that moved from December to a Mardi Gras themed evening in early February which allowed us to continue our traditions of giving back to our communities via high quality organizations like the Omaha World Herald Goodfellows, Habitat for Humanity and the Food Bank. Te event was well attended and was a welcome respite for a cold winter night. In addition, our Safety Management Council’s “new” Safety Summit brought together a wide variety of our Carrier members to introduce them to some of the latest Safety related EOBR or ELD technology providers from across the nation. It too, was well attended and was an accessible and affordable means for our members to meet and find out more about what the ELD mandates will require for them to be in compliance. Great job to both volunteer committees and staff that helped plan and provide events that met our mission of Safety, Advocacy and Information to the industry.


Don’t forget that we have just a few Safety Management Council meetings/events before they take the summer off after completing yet another Nebraska Truck Driving Championship event the first week of June at Fonner Park in Grand Island. If you haven’t already, don’t forget to put the upcoming State Skills USA competition at the Century Link in Omaha coming up in April and our Annual SuperTech competition coming up in Hastings in July. As I wrap up this month’s letter, I would also like to update you on the success we’re having with our new position and person, Doug Doncheski, Director of Safety Training and Membership Development. Doug is already out on the streets contacting members via phone and personal visits in between conducting Driver Safety meetings and TSI Safety Consulting Services for our members. Our goal of being able to provide high quality guidance and DOT Safety training in an affordable and easily accessible way is coming true. We’ve already helped a number of companies understand their CSA scores/risk exposures better and are helping them develop an easy to understand and implement a high quality “safety culture” within their organizations. Don’t wait to get a notification of an audit from State or Federal enforcement agencies to find out how your company is rated. By then it’s too late.
