Gyles Brandreth – Word Power!


After taking 2015’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival by storm, Gyles Brandreth is coming to Maidstone as part of a 40-date UK tour of his brand new show Word Power! Gyles is a word fanatic.


Founder of the National Scrabble Championships and president of the Association of British Scrabble Players, Gyles has appeared on every word-based radio and TV game show and is a regular visitor to Countdown’s Dictionary Corner. Gyles is one of Britain’s busiest after-dinner speakers and award-ceremony hosts. He has won and been nominated for awards, as a public speaker, novelist, children’s writer, broadcaster (Sony and Royal Television Society), political diarist (Channel Four), journalist (British Press Awards), theatre producer (Olivier), and businessman (British Tourist Authority Come to Britain Trophy). He has featured on This Is Your Life and Desert Island Discs and is a former chairman and now vice-president of the National Playing Fields Association. Intelligent, sometimes provocative and always entertaining, his stand-up is a hugely energetic and captivating comedy masterclass. Earning praise across the world for his performances, Omid has appeared on UK and US TV, and starred in films such as the Golden Globe-nominated Shaun the Sheep Movie, Mr Nice, Gladiator, Sex And The City 2, The Mummy and The Infidel. In 2015 he was also executive producer of the acclaimed documentary We Are Many, about the global anti-war demonstrations that took place in 800 cities on February 15 2003, to date the largest mobilisation of human beings in the history of the earth.
