becks was in good company
When David Beckham skippered Manchester United to a Premier title win at the Milk Cup in 1991, he was in good company.
Apart from having a team full of future stars in Paul Scholes, Robbie Savage, Keith Gillespie and Nicky Nutt, other teams had a few too.
Charlie Miller was with Rangers, Robbie Fowler played for Liverpool and in the Junior event Lee Hendrie turned out for City of Birmingham and Danny Murphy for Crewe Alexandra.
Some of Northern Ireland’s home grown talent included Rory Hamill (Coleraine) who played at several cross channel clubs, former West Ham United defender Graeme Philson (Coleraine) and the current Northern Ireland international manager Michael O’Neill (Antrim Town).
Former Northern Ireland defender Stephen Craigan played for Greystone Rovers too, having competed with them the previous year. He also went on to play for County Down in 1992 and Hearts in 1993.
