ALVITA BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORS ACCREDITED WITH BRITISH AND EUROPEAN HYPERTENSION SOCIETY STANDARD

Following rigorous testing, Alvita is pleased to announce that its arm and advanced arm blood pressure monitors have been clinically validated to meet the British and European Hypertension Society standards.

The Alvita range includes a choice of fully-automated, digital blood pressure monitors that can be used to measure hypertension, a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated. Ritu Bhardwaj, Senior Product Manager for Alvita said: “Having gone through a series of tests to ensure the monitors provide accurate results which meet the highest British and European standards, our arm and advanced arm blood pressure monitors are now fully accredited by the British and European Hypertension Societies. This gives pharmacists and their patient’s confi dence in our products and the Alvita brand, to ensure this high-risk condition can be effectively and effi ciently monitored at home.” The European Hypertension Society standard has been given to Alvita wrist, arm and advanced arm blood pressure monitors. The British Hypertension Society (BHS) standard has been given to the Alvita arm and advanced arm blood pressure monitors. The BHS does not endorse wrist monitors. The Alvita arm and advanced arm monitors include comfort infl ation technology so they will only tighten as much as is necessary to take a reading and are fully- automated – pressing just one button infl ates and defl ates the cuff and takes a reading, making them very easy to use. The devices also electronically store the results of the tests (90 results for the arm monitor and wrist monitor and 120 results for the advanced arm monitor).

Around 38 percent of UK adults have hypertension at any one time. Correct treatment of hypertension reduces the risk of a heart attack by about 20 percent and reduces the risk of a stroke by about 40 percent. Most people with hypertension need tablets to lower their blood pressure. Advice and treatment includes exercise, lifestyle changes, and/or diet changes, as well as drugs.(1)

Stress levels, if not managed, can spiral out of control.

NEXIUM CONTROL® NOW AVAILABLE WITHOUT A PRESCRIPTION

Nexium Control® provides 24-hour protection from heartburn3 and is indicated in the UK for short-term management of refl ux symptoms (heartburn, acid regurgitation) in adults aged 18 or over.

Nexium Control® offers an important, alternative option to antacids or alginates which, until now, have been the main options available for people to self-select from pharmacies and supermarkets. Antacids and alginates provide immediate relief, but do not deliver the sustained relief that some frequent sufferers need and want to keep their symptoms under control. By blocking acid production in the stomach, Nexium Control® can provide 24-hour protection against heartburn with just one tablet a day

Left untreated, hypertension increases the risk of heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease, stroke and dementia.(2) About 6 million UK patients take drugs to help control their blood pressure. Half these are over 60. There are 350 preventable strokes and heart attacks per day caused by high blood pressure.(3) The Alvita range of blood pressure monitors, sold exclusively in pharmacies, allows patients to monitor their own blood pressure at their convenience in their homes. Patients with high blood pressure are often recommended by their doctor to purchase a blood pressure monitor to carry out regular checks and get a true picture of their health over a period of days and weeks, rather than a one-off reading in a clinical environment. It can also be used to measure how well medicines and lifestyle changes are working to control hypertension.
