• Frank Trivino has joined Elcot Publications (The Business Magazine) as business manager for the Solent region, and will be strengthening relationships with key clients and sponsors, as well as growing the presence of the magazine and awards campaigns. Trivino brings a wealth of experience to the role having spent nine years helping establish The Times Business Guide on an international basis. He also has extensive experience of marketing channels having worked agency side providing marketing solutions and strategies to a variety of industry sector clients.
• Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP is continuing to invest in its active regional corporate finance team based in Southampton with two new appointments. Ben Knowles (left) and Ben Potts (right) bring strong experience to the team, which has advised on 25 deals worth £1 billion in the past 12 months. Knowles joins from HSBC and has advised businesses in the Southampton marketplace for over 12 years. Originally qualifying as a chartered accountant, he spent six years helping local businesses raise finance and assisting them with international growth plans. Potts joins from PwC in Plymouth, where he spent three-and-a-half years. He said: “I will be bringing my experience of a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, software and marine to the team. • South Coast law firm Coffin Mew has launched a dedicated planning law service for its residential and commercial developer clients, following the appointment of Paul Grant. At the same time, the firm has announced the appointments of real estate heavyweight Marion Wilcock and senior associate Conor Geoghegan (pictured right) to its South Coast commercial property practice.
• Fareham Innovation Centre in Hampshire has appointed an in-house business expert to help SMEs in their early stages of growth. Richard May joins as incubation director to provide customers with business support and coaching. May has a wealth of business and senior management experience gained in the technology, marketing and consulting departments of leading global companies such as Credit Suisse, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Arthur Andersen.
Grant joined the firm on October 5 from Hampshire County Council, where he was assistant head of legal services (environment). A specialist planning lawyer, Grant brings to Coffin Mew a detailed understanding of all areas of planning law and related issues, including large planning applications and s106 planning agreements, highways, major transport and infrastructure schemes, enforcement and environmental issues.
Wilcock joins the firm as a consultant following a 30-year career at DMH Stallard, with Geoghegan joining from

Penningtons Manches in Guildford. Both joined the firm on October 12. Wilcock was previously head of DMH Stallard’s commercial property practice and has been involved in some of the largest and most high-profile schemes along the South Coast including Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club’s Amex stadium, Newhaven Port and the redevelopment of East Grinstead’s town centre. Geoghegan brings to the firm extensive experience of the commercial property market, both in the City and in the Surrey/Hampshire region.
• Law firm Trethowans has appointed a new banking partner, Sophie Eales. Prior to joining Trethowans, Eales was a key member of the banking team at Bond Dickinson for more than 10 years, where she acted for major UK lenders and significant corporates, as well as undertaking a secondment with The Post Office. Specialising in banking and finance, the UK guide to the legal profession, Chambers and Partners 2015, highlights her as a notable practitioner, and recognises her "particular expertise in acquisition finance matters".
• Leading housing provider First Wessex has appointed Mike Kirk as its new chairman, bringing years of senior business expertise to the organisation. Kirk has significant experience that will benefit Hampshire-based First Wessex as it continues to develop its work to meet changing sector demands. With many years as a consultant and corporate adviser to a wide range of leading companies in the utilities, construction, engineering and energy industries, Kirk took up his role on September 29, succeeding previous chairman Phil Raybould.
