SCHOOL OF THE FUTURE: OVERVIEW
A GOOD SCHOOL LOOKS TO THE FOREFRONT of education to see where we are headed. A great school stands at the forefront…and keeps pressing forward. OES is a great school. It proudly belongs to an elite group of independent schools that have the vision, the talent, and the community support to be in the vanguard of Pre-K–12 education in the 21st century. We already are “the school of the future,” and we are far from done.
Founded just 10 years after Oregon achieved statehood, St. Helen’s Hall opened its doors to young girls and thereby opened up the world to those girls. Today we continue that tradition, recognizing that knowledge flows from open and rigorous inquiry. We guide that inquiry through a framework of Essential Competencies, outcomes we strive for in every graduating student.
We stand now in a “golden age” of education at Oregon Episcopal School. Our students are thriving. Our community is robust. Leadership is strong, imbued with a vision for the master plan of the campus and an innovative curriculum that invites the best from our faculty, our facilities, our students, and our community.
But we do not rest on our laurels. We continue to strive for increased diversity, for the teaching methods and curricular models that will best harness passion and inquiry, for questions that ask us to look again, to look deeper, for ways to improve the experience for every student and family at OES toward the betterment of our shared world. Each division abounds with examples that illustrate the remarkable education happening here. The following pages illustrate a few highlights.
Because of you and your support, we believe we can achieve new heights. We couldn’t ask for better partners in this educational journey. Together we are creating an education that inspires active participation in our world. Together, we are ensuring that today’s students live enriching and meaningful lives now and in the future.
