Through the two-year initiative,Bloomberg Philanthropies is providing $30mil- lion across 262 small andmid-sized nonprofit cultural organizations around the country to help strengthen their operational and pro- gramming efforts, including training in fundraising, audience development and boardmember engagement. The invitation-only programsupports nonprofit cultural organizations based in six cities:Boston,Chicago,Dallas,Detroit, LosAngeles and San Francisco.
DallasBlackDanceTheatre (DBDT) andBoys&GirlsClubs of GreaterDallas (BGCD) have partneredwithAmericanBallet Theatre (ABT) as part ofABT’s Project PliéMasterClass Series. Founded in 2013, Project Plié aims to increase diversity in the art formof classical ballet. In 2014,ABT joined forceswithBoys and GirlsClubs ofAmerica to introduce children to ballet to identify tal- ented students for trainingwith localABTCurriculumCertified Teachers nationwide. Two ofDBDT’s acclaimed dance instructors were certified inABT’sCurriculumin July.DBDT’sAcademy Director,OmoniyiObioha, andBallet Instructor,KatriciaEaglin, traveled toNewYorkCity this summer to learn the curriculumdur- ing a teacher training intensive atABT’s
studios.Ms.Obiohawill lead two freeweekly classes at theOakCliff andEastDallas loca- tions of theBGCDfollowing the Septembermaster class. In addi- tion,DBDTwill offer 10 scholarships to students atBGCDto enroll in itsAcademy for advanced dance training. Teacherswill also uti- lize theABT curriculumin ballet classes atDBDT’sAcademy.

During the 84th Legislative Session, theGovernor signed the GeneralAppropriation’sBillwhich included base funding of $6,669,614 for the TexasCommission on theArts in 2016 and 2017 and $5million newdollars for the TCA’s designatedCultural&Fine ArtsDistricts providing funding for cultural tourismgrants. The Governor signed HB3230—a proposed amendment to the Texas Historic Preservation TaxCredit.With its passing, nonprofit organi- zations that own historic properties in Texaswill be aided in pre- serving these historic places by increasing their ability to fund reha- bilitation projects, benefiting the goals of economic development and cultural and historic preservation.
The TexasCultural Trust produced Invest in theArts—an economic and arts education impact analysis study that shows that the arts generate $5.1 billion for our state’s economy and contribute nearly $320million in state sales tax revenue annually, alongwith reveal- ing information about howaccess and participation in arts educa- tion programs raises student school attendance, student perform- ance and graduation rates across the State.
