apmaster ProfessorRobert L.Reed II passed away at the age of 58 fromheart failure July 18, 2015 at a hospital atOklahomaCity.


Reed specialized in teaching rhythmtap.He also taught lyrical, Latin, soft shoe,waltz clog,military, funk and other tap styles.He studied under tap masterMaceoAnderson, an originalmember of the Four StepBrothers tap group.


He served as dance captainwith Riverdance and toured as a principlewith Incognito inEurope.Reed was a featured artist at the Peg LegBatesResort and touredwith CabCalloway.He opened for such luminaries as SammyDavis Jr., Jerry Lewis,Redd Foxx,Cher, the SmothersBrothers andDavid Hasselhoff.


Reed appears in the critically acclaimed Peg Leg Bates documentary “Dancingwith the Peg.”He hosted his own television show, “RobertHall,” in Japan,which featuredQuentin Tarantino and Brittany Spears as guests.

Louis Tap Festival each summer. Three of his students formed the St. LouisHoofers,which reached the semifinals on “Star Search.”


Hewent on to establish his own school in St. Louis—theRobert L. Reed TapHeritage Institute. The school hosts theworld-class St.


St. LouisMayor Francis Slay declared July 30, 2005, as Robert L. Reed TapHeritageDay.Reed is known locally for his contributions to theDanceCouncil ofNorth Texas’National TapDance Celebration.
