Santander boxes clever in Southampton
Three hundred business owners in Southampton and across the Solent had an opportunity to better understand how to grow their business as the Santander Corporate & Commercial Breakthrough Moments Box arrived in the city
The five-day ‘festival’ last month consisted of 13 free-to-attend masterclasses and events aimed at ambitious business owners and local entrepreneurs.
The Breakthrough Moments Box, located on Guildhall Square in the centre of Southampton, was a versatile space for people to meet and share ideas and expertise with a range of stakeholders, including Microsoft, PwC, G4S, Funding Circle and Peninsula.
On one day, for example, Keith Warburton at Sannam S4 hosted a session looking at trading opportunities in India to help provide practical support to UK businesses looking to expand into this market.
Another session saw Charles Garfit, head of manufacturing at Santander, run a masterclass with Graham Cooper, head of commercial credit south, and Stewart Chanter, regional risk director, on focusing the skills gap. The session provided insights on how risk decisions are made and how SMEs can best present their business to a bank.

Gunwharf Quays takes trio of awards
The hard work and dedication of Gunwharf Quays has been recognised with a hat-trick of wins and shortlisted positions at three of the UK‘s most prestigious industry awards.
The centre has won the National Recycling Award in the ‘Retail/Service Sector Recycler of the Year‘ category. This is in part for an improvement plan which included recycling 100% of food waste and sending 480 tonnes less waste to the Energy Recovery Facility than in 2014.
It has also won a prestigious ‘Green Apple’ award for making a positive impact on the environment through best practice and improving sustainability.
In addition it has been shortlisted as one of six centres nationally for the ‘Best Cleaned Shopping Mall‘ award at The Golden Service Awards (The Oscars of the cleaning industry).

The Box also showcased Santander’s Growth Capital lending programme, aimed specifically at helping business owners and entrepreneurs to fast-track growth and the Santander SME Internship programme that partners students and graduates with SMEs. The Internship programme allows students to gain valuable industry experience and the business to get access to some of the brightest and most talented students and graduates in the UK.

The Breakthrough Moments Box programme is touring key towns and cities in the UK throughout 2015.
