Pincushion


You will need two fabric circles, 10cm in diameter one 27 x 6cm piece of fabric two covered buttons, 15mm in diameter matching coloured sewing thread polyester stuffing 30cm length of upholstery thread


To make NOTE All seam allowances are 1cm. 1 Pin the short ends of the fabric strip, right sides together. Sew the seam, leaving a 2cm opening in the centre. Press the seam open. Sew a line of stitches 1cm in from the cut edges of both sides of the side panel. Clip both seam allowances to within 1mm of the stitch line, spacing the clips 1cm apart. 2 Divide one fabric circle and one edge of the side panel into quarters. Pin and sew the side panel to the circle, right sides together, matching the quarter marks. Sew the opposite side in the same manner. 3 Turn the pincushion cover through to the right side and fill with stuffing. Sew up the opening by hand. 4 Mark the centre of the two circle panels. Thread a double length of upholstery thread through the shank of one of the covered buttons. Draw the thread through the centre of the pincushion and tie the second button to the opposite side.

You will need two 9,5 x 10cm pieces of printed fabric two 7,5 x 10cm pieces of gingham fabric two 7 x 18cm pieces of gingham fabric two 3 x 18cm lengths of bias binding one 18 x 22cm piece of gingham fabric one 18 x 22cm piece of printed fabric two 2 x 30cm lengths of bias binding one 18 x 22cm piece of lightweight


iron-on batting matching coloured sewing thread polyester stuffing


To make NOTE All seam allowances are 1cm. SMALL PINCUSHION 1 Sew one 9,5 x 10cm piece to one 7,5 x 10cm piece and press the seam open. Sew the remaining two pieces in the same way. Pin these two panels, right sides together. Sew around the outer edge, leaving a small opening on one edge. 2 Turn the pincushion cover through to the right side. Stuff with polyester stuffing and sew up the opening with small, neat hand stitches. SEWING KIT 3 Use the two short lengths of bias binding to bind one long edge on each of the two 7 x 18cm pieces. Iron the batting


onto the back of the 18 x 22cm pieces of gingham fabric. Sew the two long lengths of bias binding into 5mm-wide tubes. Turn through to the right side, press flat and knot one end of each tube. 4 Pin the two bound panels, right sides up, on the face side of the 18 x 22cm piece of printed fabric to form the two pockets of the sewing kit. Pin the two bias binding ties to the centre of one 18cm edge. Finally, pin the remaining gingham panel to the printed panel, right sides together. Sew around the outer edges, leaving a 4cm opening in the centre of one of the long edges. Trim the fabric from the corners of the seam allowances. Turn through to the right side and press. 5 Top stitch around the outer edge and close the opening. Sew three evenly spaced lines of top stitching across one of the gingham pockets to create three small pockets.
